Some people run for themselves, it gives them an inner serenity that reduces stress and makes you feel good. Some people run for their health, to increase fitness and to beat your personal best. But then there's people that run for a cause, to improve the lives of others and raise money for the lesser fortunate people in the world, they run for the greater good.
Gladstone Brookes are proud to have someone this dedicated amongst our workforce. Phil Roberts will be running the Great North Run in Newcastle on the 18th September 2011. He will be running the full 13.1 miles in order to raise money for Crohns and Colitis UK, who are a leading charity helping those suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Every month Phil will be writing a blog to let us know of his progress and thoughts leading up to the big race.
Crohns is much more common than you would think and can be very deliberating for the individual sufferers. Around 250,000 people are affected by IBD in the UK alone and without people like Phil, their lives could be a lot more difficult. So please spare a thought for these people and consider donating to show your appreciation to people like Phil who actively help the lesser fortunate.
As we all know... to run many miles is a big challenge, not many people decide to do it. But running a Half-Marathon isn't something you decide to do overnight. It requires months and months of training and commitment of your own time, it requires you to regulate or keep track of your diet, it helps to recondition the mind. All of this plus more needs to be taken into consideration if your serious about the run.
What's a runner, running for charity, without donations? This is where we all do our bit! It takes a lot of reverence to run many miles for a cause, but it takes an equal amount of respect, generosity and understanding to willingly donate your hard earned money, so someone far less fortunate than yourself! Please donate Here!
Phil has been training multiple times per week for months now, he feel's that the training may be more difficult than the actual run itself, but he is mentally prepared and almost physically prepared. We've been helping him keep track of his performance through various methods, such as tracking his running route via GPS, with distance, time and weight loss all taken into consideration.
We will be providing all of Phil's stats on our website and blog, along with weekly updates on his progess and performance very soon, so stay posted!
