The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has found that one in five people have experienced a problem with contracts in the last 12 months. A good tip to avoid paying for something you might not need is to always read the small print of any contract that you sign, especially when it comes to personal finance products.

One of the biggest grievances made against PPI is that many sellers led consumers to believe that it was compulsory to take out payment protection insurance when applying for a loan, mortgage or credit card.

Remember, PPI is always optional, it is never compulsory.

You can claim for PPI compensation as far back as 1st January, 2001 and if you’ve had a loan for all of this time, it could be a considerable amount of compensation that you are able to claim for.

H i, I’ve had many loans in the past and credit cards, I have no paper work for these, they have been with Black Horse, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Sainsburys. Is it possible to claim without this information?

Can a claim be made for PPI taken out in 1992?

    • David Taylor says:

      John,

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately no. We can only make claims from 1st December 2001 onwards depending on the lender.
However if you take out a loan in 1992 and topped it up after 2001 then we may be able to help. It has to be a continuation of the same loan, not a new loan. Please get in contact with us and we will see if we can help.

Good luck with your claim Gladstone Brookes
