CHARITY OF THE MONTH - Victoria House Care Home

When Rachel Edwards left the Victoria House Care Home for a new job she just couldn’t completely cut the ties with them. She decided she would continue to volunteer and roped in husband Stefan to help out.

Between them they have worked with the home’s activity co-ordinator to try to raise funds and give the residents a better quality of life than just sitting around in the lounge watching TV every day.

No living relatives

Said Stefan: “Money has always been a problem because most of the residents have no living relatives and no funds of their own to get out and do things so we need to fundraise before we can do anything.

“I nominated them to become GB charity of the month to see how much cash we could raise and they are over the moon that we have been able to donate £440 which will help make their lives that bit brighter.”

Amazed

Wife Rachel said: “They are lovely people and when I left to get my new job I just couldn’t leave them behind altogether and still help out where I can.

I was amazed when Stefan told me his colleagues raised money for good causes like this. They’re going to thoroughly enjoy themselves as a result of your generosity.”

The home’s activities co-ordinator and chief fundraiser Suzanne McNamee said: “We can’t thank the staff at Gladstone Brookes enough for their generosity towards our residents.

Finding the money to pay for special treats is always hard and there’s so much we will be able to do with this great donation.”

  • Next month’s charity will be Warrington YFC, nominated by Tom Holmes.
